Recap:
In his first start of the season, Gordon had a pretty uneven outing. He did fine the
first two throwing two 1-2-3 innings. Not sure if he started to tire but things got
a little rocky after that. 2 runs scored on a single, sb, double, single (in that
order). Another runner stole a second base, but did not score. The fourth inning
was one of "those" innings... it started off with the lead-off batter getting aboard
via a walk. The next batter KS, good sign, perhaps Gordon will get out of it. Er no.
The next batter reaches on an error (missed catch by Spencer) advancing the runner to
third. Donaldson drops a ball in foul terriroty extending the AB of Haley who is
willing to give himself up with a sacbunt, but he reached on the third error of the
inning another missed catch by Spencer. Two runners score and Haley, who remember was
trying to give himself up, ends up on third and should have been out anyway. Spencer
also had a throwing error in that same sequence for good measure. Jackson, the next
hitter hits a FC, Haley scores, BUT Donaldson taking his cue from Spencer has a catching
error, so Jackson ends up on second. He steals third and scores on.... (wait for it)
a WP. The batter ends up striking out and the next hitter grounds out 4-3. Spencer
does not miss the ball... I don't even want to figure out the blunders in that inning.
And to think it all started with a walk. Order is restored as Dewing relieves Gordon
throwing 2 scoreless. Benacka comes in 7 and is charged with his first blown save,
but ends up getting the win as he goes 2 allowing 1 earned run on a solo homer, while
striking out 5. Currin pitched a scoreless 9th getting this 6th save of the
season as the Ports rally for a 9-7 victory.
.
Carter, DH'ing hit his 31th homer; we'll have to see if it is a permanent move with
Valez (who had been playing second) moved to third and Martinez, demoted from Midland,
played second. Donaldson trying to make amends hit his 5th, Brown hit his 8th.
