Please note, stats haven't been updated completely. But Simmons struggled
with his control for what seems like the first time. He pitched 4.2 innings
and gave up 3 earned runs, striking out 3 and walking 4. Jay Marshall followed
in relief and got the win, throwing 2.1 shutout innings. Carignan pitched
the 9th as the Rockhounds beat San Antonio 11-6.
.
The offense was quite efficient with 11 runs on 11 hits. Leading off, Donovan
walked 3 times, scored 2 runs and hit his first homer of the season, at a most
auspicious time... the bases were loaded. Hitting second Pennington got 3 hits
and scored twice. Guzman walked 3 times and scored once. Zeringue went hitless.

The postponed game didn't seem to bother Craig Italiano as he pitched five
innings and improved his record to a perfect 4-0. Italiano struck out 7,
walked 3 and only allowed one hit. Moore came in and pitched 4 innings
allowing a run as the Cougars beat the Bandits 11-1. Matt Smith, C, had
five rbis and raised his OPS to .900, scored twice and threw out a runner.
In the lead off position, Keough walked 4 times and scored trice. Dowling
scored twice and hit a homer. Correa, the shortstop hit his first homerun.
.
Obviously the baseball gods that follow the A's read my snarky comment about no
A's shortstop hitting a homer at any level. Now that's two in just about as many
games. Now if Pennington jacks one, we'll know for sure there was devine
intervention.
